
Fighting Jaguar Trade in Suriname
This could be one of the most in-depth investigations on the jaguar trade in Bolivia and Suriname, as the majority of the major internatiaonal traffickers were interviewed and filmed.
Background
Due to demand of jaguar fang, jaguar paste and jaguar meat, poaching for jaguar has been increasing in the region, threatening this magnificant animal species.
Project Summary
From 2019 to 2023, Agent C team conducted field investigations in Bolivia and Suriname, investigated both buyers and sellers, shared intelligence with law enforcement, NGO partners and so on.
Key Results
01
Identified current availability of the different kinds (fangs, paste, meat) of jaguar products as well as past development trend of the illegal business over the past decade.

Identified major traffickers and trafficking network.

Capturing video evidence to help get the traffickers arrested.

Obtained "jaguar paste" (produced from cooking jaguar for days) sample for the first time in Suirname's conservation history. Handed over to law enforcement team for them to design future inspection.

Organized the first promotional campaign among the Chinese communities in Suriname against illegal wildlife trade.
